The Animal Caretaker will support the proper care and maintenance of all animals and the vivarium. The candidate will perform routine animal care duties, maintain accurate records, and adhere to IBT operating procedures.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Husbandry Responsibilities:

• Performing cage changes.

• Maintaining animal feed and water levels.

• Receiving, examining, and transferring incoming animal shipments.

• Maintaining vivarium supplies and an organized animal caging storage area.

• Prompt reporting abnormal conditions in the vivarium to the immediate supervisor.

• Assist with breeding colony maintenance, when required.

Facility Responsibilities:

• Daily monitoring of the vivarium: Including temperature, humidity, and daily facility checks.

• Performing routine cleaning of facility. • Perform routine equipment maintenance.

• Preparing and disposing of waste from the vivarium in accordance with proper procedures.

• Assist with environmental monitoring: sentinel caging maintenance and RODAC sampling.

REQUIREMENTS:

• The successful candidate must:

• Be a strong communicator, self-starter, dependable, accurate, collaborative, trustworthy, and dedicated to working with animals.

• Possess a desire to grow and learn

• Ability to periodically work weekends and holidays.

• Ability to safely handle chemical disinfectants and tolerate rodent facility odors.

• Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50Lbs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or GED with:

• 1-2 years of prior experience of working with animals in BSL-2 level facilities, following aseptic techniques and proper PPE requirements

• Knowledge of IACUC/OLAW/USDA regulations/guidelines/policies documentation.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office: Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
