E.Coli Animal Models for Efficacy Testing

We have established intranasal as well as intestinal colonization models with ETEC.

For the ETEC Intestinal colonization model, normal flora is eliminated with streptomycin and cimetidine is used for stomach deacidification. Mice are then inoculated with ETEC H10407 by gastric gavage and colonization is examined at different time points post challenge by measurement of CFUs in the intestine. Bacterial shedding as well as antibody response can be measured in stool samples.
Lethality endpoint can be determined using high dose challenge. Intranasal challenge model is also available where lethal or sublethal doses may be used to establish disease to evaluate therapeutics and vaccines.
